Nick Pope

Nick Pope is a British UFO investigator who worked for the British Ministry of Defence (MoD), where he claims his job was to investigate UFO incidents. He now lives in the US.

He describes himself on his website as follows:

Nick Pope (born 19 September 1965) is a freelance British journalist and media commentator. He was an employee at the British Government's Ministry of Defence (MoD) from 1985 to 2006 and is best known for a role he undertook for the British Government from 1991 to 1994 which involved investigating reports of UFO sightings to determine their defence significance.
He moved to the United States in January 2012.

Pope does not support the extraterrestrial hypothesis when it comes to the origins of UFOs. He does support disclosure.

Controversy

Nick Pope is a controversial figure for several reasons. One is that he admitted that while working for the MoD, he was complicit in covering up information and misleading the public about UFOs and crop circles.

But, more than that, his credentials as the British MoD's UFO investigator are also being questioned. British UFO researcher Philip Mantle claims that Pope made most of this story up. Pope would have had a minor administrative job in a PR office that mainly replied to letters from the public. Mantle asked the MoD about Pope's job at the MoD, and subsequently published the replies he got, which reject Pope's story. Mantle also interviewed former colleagues of Pope who also reject his story. In return, Pope claims these are merely attempts to discredit him.
